Live Auction Item #2: A Hawaiian Hideaway for 6

Built by the McCormick spice family as their exclusive retreat on the Big Island of Hawaii, The Onion House is a unique architectural treasure. Much as Fallingwater takes stunning advantage of its setting, the Onion House’s “organic architecture” allows guests to enjoy tropical living in harmony with the natural environment. Lava rock walls create a high terrace overlooking the sea, where two arching domes lie surrounded by pools, fishponds and gardens. Stained glass walls and the translucent roof panels of this exquisite home filter light throughout this unconventional residence, located on a hillside 500 feet above Kailua Bay.

You and up to five adult guests will enjoy a week in this tropical paradise hand-built by celebrated architect Kendrick Banggs Kellogg. If you’re the winning bidder, make sure to call dibs on the master bedroom, which was named by HGTV as one of the ten 'Most Romantic Bedrooms' in the world. Separate from the main structure of the house, the master bedroom features its own meditation garden, king-sized bed, and bath, as well as screened and stained glass walls that overlook the swimming pool and dining terrace.

We’ll also connect you with a concierge on the island, who can help you plan a schedule of unforgettable activities to make the most of your Hawaiian vacation.

Available by special arrangement with Beth McCormick.
Value: Priceless
Opening Bid: $5,000
Restrictions: No more than six adult guests. Not recommended for children under 10 or people who have difficulty with steps. Daily maid and breakfast service available for an additional fee. Reservations are for Saturday to Saturday stays and are subject to availability through the end of 2010. Not available during holiday weeks.

(Who can provide better relationship advice than a Bride of Christ?) We’ll provide the winning bidder and up to 20 guests with tickets to a performance – regardless of whether you’re practicing celibacy, abstinence or the rhythm method – so that you can experience Catholicism’s feistiest couples counselor. Live Auction Item #5: Learn from Pittsburgh’s Great Chefs

Barbecuing a brisket. Selecting fine artisan cheeses. Perfectly searing a duck breast. Upgrading your standard macaroni and cheese. Learn how to do all of the above – or ask a chef to answer other questions. Two of Pittsburgh’s most talented chefs – Thomas Langan, the Aramark Executive Chef who planned tonight’s menu; and Jason Capps of Bella Sera; plus two surprise guest chefs to be named later – have each graciously agreed to conduct a culinary class onsite in your kitchen while preparing a meal for the winning bidder and seven guests. Services include menu planning and wine suggestions in advance of your meal, along with instructions for you and your guests on how to get the same spectacular results on your own.

Compliments of Thomas Langan and Jason Capps.
Value: Priceless
Opening Bid: $2,000
